In Yemassee? - Yes, Yemassee, South Carolina!

Updated: Apr 16, 2021

Yemassee has a few surprises - and the newest is our Event Center, Shop and Coffee Bar - The Lowcountry Living Room.

I am Charlotte. Charlotte Holmes Murray. A Lowcountry native born in Beaufort and raised in the 60's, 70's and early 80's on the beaches of nearby Hilton Head Island. In the mid 80's my father moved to Yemassee, SC. And 25 years ago we planted our family here, as well. As we like to say, "I wasn't born in Yemassee, but I got here as fast as I could!"

Last year as the pandemic was gearing up to change our lives my husband and I made the quirky decision to open a "gathering place" when no one was gathering! Because of the pandemic I was able to take my time and make necessary changes and remodels to the space we had chosen. In my dreams there was to be a coffee shop. antiques and art gallery included - and by November the adjacent space opened up and, Voila! Here we are!

Yemassee has a very interesting history and was once known as "The Crossroads of the Southeast." The railroads ran North-South and East-West carrying all of the crops that were raised in these sea island farms. Here at the Lowcountry Living Room we aim to once again become a Cross-roads for paths to intersect and for people from all walks to gather. We are praying for a many-faceted revival in our little town.

The Lowcountry Living Room brings together the best of being an inspirational gathering place and an eclectic mix of local art and estate antiques curated from several different vendors. Our event center is designed for maximum use of space but with all the intimacy of your favorite sitting rooms. The boutique and coffee bar bring together a unique shopping experience with generous space for relaxing with your favorite coffee or tea.

“I am a wife and Mom, first - but very quickly you will find that I am an Artist wife and Mom with a passion to share a cup of coffee with a side of inspiration!”

Why a Living Room?

I am a wife and mom first - but very quickly you will find that I am an "Artist wife and Mom," with a passion to share a cup of coffee with a side of inspiration. Helping other people reach their dreams and goals is one of the driving forces in my life. And that always seems to begin with a conversation around a warm beverage in a cozy spot. I love home. I love the traditions that abound at home. One of our favorite family traditions since moving to the country is a "pause" at 4 o'clock each day. We stop what we are doing and gather for coffee - and often for dessert! So when I began to ponder an event space, it was as natural as breathing for me to envision people sitting around in cozy vignettes sipping coffee and having great conversations. This is our tradition. Yemassee is our home. You are always welcome to come to the table for coffee at our home - The Lowcountry Living Room exists to further the tradition of memorable and inspiring gatherings.

Come to the country - Come to Yemassee - Come and See what all the fuss is about here at the Lowcountry Living Room - Come tell us your dreams for your next gathering and we will work a little inspiration to help make those dreams a reality! And while you do we will sit in a cozy spot and sip on something wonderful!

Come and See us -
